RanchAlerts

How It Works

From invite to the first alert — without the noise.

You do not need to be a network engineer to get value on day one. Advanced options stay under the fold until you want them.

  1. Get an invitation

We are currently in beta testing and will be open for public access in Q4/2026. Request access on this site, or wait if someone on your team already asked. We create the organization and email the owner a one-time link to choose a password.

  2. Sign in to the portal

Open portal.ranchalerts.com. Use the email from the invite. You can add an authenticator app for extra sign-in security, or skip it and turn it on later from Settings → Your Account.

The dashboard is the home screen. It shows whether monitors are up, recent uptime, and — when your package includes SMS — how many texts you have used this month.

  3. Add a monitor

Choose Monitors → Add Monitor. Name it something you will recognize, such as “Company website.” Pick a type:

    • HTTP if you care that a web page or health URL loads.
    • PING if you care that a host answers.
    • Port monitoring if you care that mail, SSH, or HTTPS is accepting connections.

Paste the address you want watched. Leave the default thresholds unless you already know you want something stricter.

  4. Choose who we should tell

Your account email is usually selected on the first monitor. Leave it checked if you want the mail. Add other contacts under Settings → Contacts. They verify the address before they can receive alerts. Contacts do not get a login.

If your package includes SMS, add a mobile number on the contact, check the consent box, and on the monitor choose Email, SMS, or both. Reply STOP on the phone to unsubscribe at any time.

Team members are not the same as contacts. Team members sign in. Contacts receive alerts. Inviting a teammate also adds their email as a contact so new monitors can include them.

Make sure it is working

After you save, the dashboard should show Up once the first checks succeed. Open the monitor to see recent checks and which city ran them.

If one city looks down and the others look up, a firewall or WAF is often challenging that city’s address. Allow our polling IPs — the live list is public at Monitoring IPs.

When you already know something will be offline — a fiber cut, a patch night — schedule a maintenance window on the monitor. Alerts pause. Checks still run.

What you can do next

  • Invite teammates under Settings → Team Members.
  • Choose Light, Dark, or Match device under Settings → Your Account.
  • Publish a customer-facing status page.
  • Open a Help ticket from the portal if something still looks wrong.
